The Florida Strawberry Festival board of directors elected Suzanne Cribbs to its associate board of directors yesterday evening.
Cribbs was elected to fill an associate director position that became vacant when Jon Poppell was promoted to the board of directors in September. She currently serves as the gifted consultant at Tomlin Middle School and teaches 7th and 8th grade honors language arts on the school’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics team. In 2016, she was chosen teacher of the year by her peers.
Cribbs’ late father, Jim Walden, was a festival director for 20 years, and she and her mother, Linda Walden, have co-chaired the festival’s annual fashion show for the past 26 years. She has also volunteered with the grand parade, youth livestock judging, poultry and rabbit shows and ambassador team.
The festival’s board of directors is comprised of 30 individuals who govern the 11 day event. Fourteen of those individuals serve as directors, and 16 serve as associate directors. All members must reside within Hillsborough County.
